“The Next Big Thing” (TNBT) Challenge

Yes, it is another challenge 🙂

I’ve been tagged in”The Next Big Thing” (TNBT) Challenge not once, but twice, by my friends Cathy Givans and Jen Wagner.

So here is how it works:

  1. Answer the ten TNBT questions listed below about your current WIP.
  2. Tag five other writers and link to their blogs so we can hop over and read their answers! ~ this part I will skip, it is a holiday weekend after all 🙂

What is the title of your book/WIP?

I have it narrowed down to either ‘Siren Song’ or ‘Awaken’.

Where did the idea for the book come from?

Ever since I moved to the Pacific Northwest I have been hypnotized by the Native American culture and mythology. Soon it blossomed to the Pacific Cultures and mythology. Asia, Russia, Alaskan tribes, BC Tribes, Northwest tribes and Hawaiian cultures intrigue me. I created a magical world based on these myths and legends. It exists within our reality, only the magical can see it. Siren Song is the first story and gives the reader a glimpse into this world.

What genre would your book fall under?

Young Adult / Paranormal with a taste of adventure, mystery and romance.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

This is such a difficult question. The best visual representation can be found on my ‘pinterest‘ board titled character reference. I use pinterest as a visual storyboard, character reference tool. Satori is the lead character in Siren Song and the 1st pin on the board. If Vanessa Marano (Switched at Birth)  had green eyes, she’d be the 1st actress of choice for the part!

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Satori Winters is forced to return home to Starlight Cove when her mother vanishes, only to uncover a magical world she forgot.

Is your book published or represented?

I’m Indie!

How long did it take you to write?

The world has been building in my imagination ever since I moved to Seattle. This story is still being polished. I’d say a year so far.

What other books within your genre would you compare it to?

Harry Potter meets Gilmore Girls!!

Which authors inspired you to write this book?

I think the biggest influences are of course, J.K. Rowling, Meg Cabot, and P.C.Cast’s Partholon books.

Tell us anything else that might pique our interest in your book.

These books will open your eyes to a magical world that has been here all along, if you only believe! I have a huge affection for animals, I used to work at 2 local zoos. That affection will be incorporated, hopefully, in surprising ways.

I love comments and questions!! Thanks for visiting.

I weave myth, magic and fairy tales into my paranormal novels. I would rather spend my days with sirens and shapeshifters than live in the real world.

  • Maryellen, I have been deeply interested in Native American culture since my childhood and my first story also blends elements of my early reading in this area. I love the description of your novel and I’m excited to read more about it! (Harry Potter meets Gimore Girls, LOL)
