Teaser Tuesday ~ Warped by Maurissa Guibord

Teaser: A tingling sensation ran up her arm, quick and warm and so lightning fast Tessa didn’t have time to snatch her hand back. Suddenly everything was gone. The tapestry, the car, even the ground was gone.

p12 Warped by Maurissa Guibard

Synopsis:

Tessa doesn’t believe in magic. Or Fate. But there’s something weird about the dusty unicorn tapestry she discovers in a box of old books. She finds the creature woven within it compelling and frightening. After the tapestry comes into her possession, Tessa experiences dreams of the past and scenes from a brutal hunt that she herself participated in. When she accidentally pulls a thread from the tapestry, Tessa releases a terrible centuries old secret. She also meets William de Chaucy, an irresistible 16th-century nobleman. His fate is as inextricably tied to the tapestry as Tessa’s own. Together, they must correct the wrongs of the past. But then the Fates step in, making a tangled mess of Tessa’s life. Now everyone she loves will be destroyed unless Tessa does their bidding and defeats a cruel and crafty ancient enemy.

Tuesday Teaser ~ The Brahms Deception by Louise Marley

Teaser:

Frederica stretched out her arms and opened her hand to admire the long tapering fingers, so white in the brilliant sunshine. She leaned back against Brahm’s strong shoulder, and closed her eyes to feel the breeze on her eyelids, the cooling air on her flushed cheeks. She had seen Clara’s portraits.

and one more tease from the same page 🙂

Frederica felt Clara within, crying out to Hannes for help. She was frightened, naturally.

pg 34 The Brahms Deception Louise Marley

Synopsis:

Frederica Daniels, a brilliant musicologist whose life is devoid of romance, has won an irresistible opportunity – to go back in time to the era of Johannes Brahms. Transported to Tuscany in the 1860s, she finds herself living in the body of beautiful Clara Schumann and is swept into an affair with the charismatic Brahms. Rival scholar Kristian North is elected to travel to the past and retrieve Frederica, who is unwilling to leave. While Kristian revels in the beauty of Italy and the genius of Brahms, he is unable to unearth Frederica’s deception. And it is only with Clara’s help that he will be able to protect the musical legacy of Brahms and the balance of time itself…

Louise Marley’s love of music and history shines in this romantic tale. Can you imagine being ‘transferred’ to the past? This book is the perfect blend of all my favorite elements, thriller, intrigue, history, sci-fi, and a touch of romance. I’ve read it several times and it is still one of my favorites!!

Teaser Tuesday ~ Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot

Stephanie’s already figured it out, thanks to Cooper’s hint. I can tell the exact moment I go from being the shrewish college administrator in Stephanie’s eyes to Heather Wells, former pop teen sensation, and one of her boss’s biggest success stories…until I gained a few pounds, insisted on writing my own songs, and suddenly wasn’t so successful anymore.

pg 47 Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot

*** and just one more tease from the same page, cause the writing is just that darned good!!

“Right,” I say as Stephanie crushes my finger in her own. She must do Pilates. Or press diamonds out of coal with her bare hands.

pg 47 Size 12 and Ready to Rock by Meg Cabot

Synopsis: Summer break . . . and the livin’ ain’t easy!

Just because the students at New York College have flown the coop doesn’t mean assistant residence hall director Heather Wells can relax. Fischer Hall is busier than ever, filled with squealing thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls attending the first ever Tania Trace Teen Rock Camp, hosted by pop sensation Tania Trace herself—who just happens to be newly married to Heather’s ex-boyfriend, heartthrob Jordan Cartwright. But the real headache begins when the producer of a reality TV show starring Tania winds up dead . . . and it’s clear that the star was the intended victim.

Grant Cartwright, head of Cartwright Records, wants to keep his daughter-in-law (and his highest-earning performer) alive. So he hires his oldest son, black sheep of the family and private investigator Cooper Cartwright—who just happens to be Heather’s new fiancÉ. Heather should leave the detecting to Cooper. But with a dorm full of hysterical mini-divas-in-training, she can’t help but get involved. And after Tania shares a really shocking secret with her, this reality suddenly becomes more dangerously real than anyone ever anticipated.

Tuesday Teaser ~ Shadow’s Edge by J.T. Geissinger

No! she thought, panicked, No! I’m not – I can’t –

Just before she fainted, Jenna saw the feral green-eyed stranger lick his lips.

p 13 Shadow’s Edge by J.T. Geissinger

Synopsis: Deep within the primeval forests of southern England, a race of beautiful, savage shape-shifters lives hidden from the everyday world. Bound together by ancient bloodlines and a ruthless code of secrecy that punishes traitors with death, the Ikati send their leader Leander on a mission to capture one raised outside the tribe before she can expose their secret. When Leander tracks the unsuspecting outsider to Southern California, the hardened warrior is prepared for a fight—but not for the effect the sensual young beauty has on his heart.

Jenna spent her childhood in hiding, on the run from someone—or something—her parents refused to discuss. She trusts no one, not since her father’s mysterious disappearance, not since her mother’s sudden death, and definitely not since she began exhibiting strange, superhuman abilities. When handsome, enigmatic Leander appears, promising answers to the mysteries that shroud her past, she knows she shouldn’t trust him either. But their connection is undeniable, and as powerful as the enemy hell-bent on destroying every one of their kind…

What can I say, I LOVE a good shapeshifter story and this is, so far, a wonderful one!!

Teaser Tuesday ~ Divine by Mistake by P. C. Cast

“Centaurs have more stamina than a horse—” pause for effect “—or a man.” His voice had deepened and I felt a rush of pleasure, a little like electricity, pass down my spine, and for a moment I thought I felt trapped in a steamy romance novel. Not that I’d mind.

p159 Divine By Mistake P.C. Cast

Synopsis: The most excitement teacher Shannon Parker expected on her summer vacation was a little shopping. But then her latest purchase–a vase with the Celtic goddess Epona on it–somehow switches her into the world of Partholon, where she’s treated like a goddess. A very temperamental goddess…

It seems that Shannon has stepped into another’s role as the Goddess Incarnate of Epona. And while it has some very appealing moments–what woman doesn’t like a little pampering now and then?–it also comes with a ritual marriage to a centaur and the threat of war against the evil Fomorians. Oh, and everyone disliking her because they think she’s her double.

Somehow Shannon needs to figure out how to get back to Oklahoma without being killed, married to a horse or losing her mind… .

This is by far one of my all time favorite books! I wore out my first paperback version and am now on my 3rd. The 2nd was loaned to a friend and they refused to return it 😉 I hope someday that my own novels are infused with the magic and humor of this story.

Teaser Tuesday ~ Hourglass by Myra McEntire

My small Southern hometown is beautiful in the haunting way and aging debutante is beautiful. The Bones are exquisite, but the skin could use a lift. You could say my brother, the architect, is Ivy Spring’s plastic surgeon.

pg 1 Hourglass by MyraMcEntire

Synopsis:

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.
Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

Full of atmosphere, mystery, and romance, Hourglass merges the very best of the paranormal and science-fiction genres in a seductive, remarkable young adult debut.

Teaser Tuesday ~ A Demon Made Me Do It by Penelope King

My Tuesday Teaser this week is from Penelope King’s

A Demon Made Me Do It, a very fun read!!

The thing people don’t understand about demons is that we’re not all the horrible, evil-for-the-sake-of-being-evil, rotten, eternally-damning monsters everyone makes us out to be.

Okay, I admit, some are pretty terrible, but who amongst us can throw stones?

p 79 A Demon Made Me Do It by Penelope King

Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Liora Greyson has never been a “normal” girl. But the walls she’s carefully constructed to keep people away crack wide open once she meets the sexy and mysterious Kieron Ambrose. The more she falls for him, the more worried she becomes. She can’t let him know she transforms into demon named ‘Lucky’ at dusk…a demon with an entirely separate personality who spends her nights drinking, tormenting humans, slaying unsuspecting demons, and lusting after her gorgeous and unattainable incubus/hellhound BFF. But it turns out Kieron has a few dark secrets of his own. Secrets that will either save Liora…or completely destroy her.

Fighting your demons is one thing. Having one who fights back, messes with your guy, and leaves you with nasty hangovers is total hell.

Teaser Tuesday ~ Reckless by Cornelia Funke

My Tuesday Teaser is from one of my favorite authors ~

The night breathed through the apartment like a dark animal….But Jacob loved the night. He felt it on his skin like a promise.

Outside the stars were paled by the glaring lights of the city, and the large apartment was stale with his mother’s sorrow.

Reckless  (p 1) by Cornelia Funke (2012/9/14)

Synopsis: Ever since Jacob Reckless was a child, he has been escaping to a hidden world through a portal in his father’s abandoned study. Over the years, he has made a name for himself as a finder of enchanted items and buried secrets. He’s also made many enemies and allies–most important, Fox, a beautiful shape-shifting vixen whom Jacob cares for more than he lets on.

But life in this other world is about to change. Tragedy strikes when Jacob’s younger brother, Will, follows him through the portal. Brutally attacked, Will is infected with a curse that is quickly transforming him into a Goyl–a ruthless killing machine, with skin made of stone.

Jacob is prepared to fight to save his brother, but in a land built on trickery and lies, Jacob will need all the wit, courage, and reckless spirit he can summon to reverse the dark spell–before it’s too late.
